Individual Therapy: How can we help?

Some new clients seek counsel for a specific issue, problem, or goal.  It could be that you have tried to tackle it on your own or by enlisting the help of family and friends, but have been unable to find relief or change the situation.  You may have sought prior professional help, but feel you need further help now.  Some clients cannot name a specific problem or issue, but instead are experiencing an overall sense of discontent, while others report having a sense that "something is not quite right."  Regardless of your concern, we can help you identify, explore, work on and resolve the issue.

Self-Exploration

Increasingly more clients engage in counseling, not as a result of a problem, but instead to enhance their overall well-being and to live life more fully. At Volition Wellness Solutions, we believe in the value of self-examination and encourage those who are interested in this process.  Delving into one's own thoughts and feelings with the guidance of a trained professional can only enhance an individuals quality of life, reduce anxiety and stress, expand consciousness, improve intimacy, and permanently release past hurts.

Life Transitions

In our years of practice, we have found that periods of transition in one's life can be exciting and challenging, but also highly stressful.  Examples of life transitions are: career change, marriage, separation and divorce, starting a family, infertility, adjustment to empty nest, caring for ailing parents (sometimes while simultaneously raising one's own children) and retirement.

While many of these transitions are "normal" parts of life, they can produce intense feelings that can be difficult to manage. Sometimes seeking the help of a trained professional for a short period of time while one goes through a major life transition can be enormously helpful.

Eating Disorders:

Our philosophy is to address the total scope of the eating disorder, including body image, relationship with food, medical complications, co-occurring diagnoses, and the chronic nature of eating disorders. Our treatment model has a strong therapy focus on experiential work, shame reduction, understanding the basic disease concept, and recovery through the Twelve Steps. Eating disorder clients are assisted in developing a balanced fitness regimen. Our therapy emphasis is designed to assist the individual in breaking through denial while experiencing unconditional acceptance and guidance.

The goals are to educate clients by providing meaningful treatment experiences through the integration of medical, psychological, and complementary therapies. These goals are achieved by incorporating the following principles in all aspects of treatment: mindfulness training, healthy skills and resources to replace current unhealthy personal coping mechanisms, encouragement of autonomy in relationship to food and recovery for eating disorders, promotion of healthy lifestyle, including healthy body image, education about the medical consequences of eating disorders, development of emotional regulation and distress tolerance, nutrition education to address food-related issues, individual consultations with registered dietitian, providing personal fitness consultation and developing a personalized health plan including meal and exercise plan.

Addictions:

The willingness to become aware of your situation is the first step to diagnosis and treatment, which can bring healing, joy, and balance to your life! Have you ever felt you should cut down on your drinking or drug use? Have people annoyed you by criticizing or complaining about your drinking or drug use? Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your drinking or drug use? Have you ever had a drink or drug in the morning (eye-opener) to steady your nerves or get rid of a hangover? An answer of Yes to 2 or more of these questions is thought to be clinically significant and may indicate alcohol or drug dependence.

Our addiction treatment model integrates philosophies and practices from the medical, psychological, spiritual, and the 12 step self-help communities. Our ability to address the broad range of needs of our clients is brought about by incorporating healthcare practices and research based complementary and alternative therapies. The result is a powerful and effective treatment experience. This integral approach to treatment looks at all aspects of each individual: mind, body, spirit, and community.
